M & M's

My name is Wendy Witz and I am a chocoholic.

This is not a confession—as I am not admitting anything that I hope to change. Instead, I am making a profession—a declaration of my love for chocolate.

However, I do not love all chocolates equally. My preference is milk chocolate. My favorite chocolate indulgences are Dove chocolate, Reece’s peanut butter cups or my Mom’s ‘buckeyes’ and M & M’s—peanut or plain (with no discrimination of colors).

What I am about to write is not a justification of my continual consumption of M & M’s~however, M & M’s are an encouragement and a reminder to Meditate upon & Memorize God’s Word! Let His Words melt in your mouth as ‘you taste (& see) that the Lord is good’ (Psalm 34:8).

Meditating on God’s words is to think deeply, ponder. Like a cow chewing its cud~we are to continually bring God’s words back to our minds over and over again. Doing this will help us to Memorize scripture verses and store them in our hearts and minds. ‘I have hidden Your word in my heart’ (Psalm 119:11). The Memorization of God’s words is essential--for us to recall verses of the bible more readily so that we might be encouraged as well as discern God’s direction when we are at crossroads in our lives.

Through Memorization we can hold God’s words in our minds and hearts when we are not holding God’s Word in our hands.

There are M & M’s that we need to avoid. (Yes, it’s true--just like there are wolves in sheep’s clothing there are also some bad M & M’s!) Take for example, Meribah & Massah. Meribah means quarreling. When we are quarreling with others, or with God, roots of bitterness can take hold in our hearts making our hearts become indifferent in our relationships, even our relationship with God. Massah means testing. We all go through times of testing in our lives when circumstances are difficult and situations are stressful. Or times when we feel that we are between a rock and a hard place. Times like these can cause us to doubt our faith and make our hearts go astray….from God.

This is when we need to partake of the ‘good’ M & M’s— and bring back (Mediation) to our minds & hearts what God’s Word says and not allow bitterness to take root in relationships, especially with God. And also to recall God’s words that we have Memorized to remind us of His love for us and that His plans are to prosper and not harm us, plans to give us a hope and a future. (Jeremiah 29: 11)

Now that we all agree on the necessity of M & M’s in our daily spiritual nutrition-- the only question is~ plain or peanut?

  1. Terrific! Just read it to Beanie & Izzy. Thank you and God Bless. Izzy says you did a good job and she loves chocolate. Same with Beanie, says the Bean.
